Try Again

Well, we lost our pregnancy. It's not the first miscarriage my wife has had, and it was still relatively early at around 8 weeks, so we have taken it in stride, but it's still disappointing, and frustrating for my wife, who dealt with weeks of nausea for nothing and who feels some timing pressure given her "geriatric" maternal status. We will try again, and hopefully have a healthy embryo next time.

My parents are here visiting, and I'm trying to take as much of the coming week off as I can, although work has already piled up to fill my mornings despite my out of office message. I have activities planned in the afternoons, so hopefully I can preserve those and not have to cancel any plans. We are driving down to Monterey, Big Sur, and Hearst Castle in the last half of the week, which should be very fun.

I also finally decided to go ahead and buy a car. I reserved a new Kia Sorento plug-in hybrid, and decided it was better to bite the bullet on the dealer markup than to wait for that to go down only to have inflation drive up the MSRP in the meantime. And the Sorento has three rows and hopefully enough electric range for my commute, at least if I charge at work. I've been seeing the Ioniq 5 on the road, and while I like it, it's a bit small, and I was in the market for a family car. Kia and Hyundai will release three row electric SUVs next year or the year after on their common platform, and maybe I will get one of those if I'm flush with cash and not happy with the electric range of the Sorento, but for now I appreciate having a family car that can electrify my commute while still being able to use gas for longer trips. Anyway, it's supposed to arrive while we're on our trip, so I'll pick it up when we get back, with any luck.
